For Therapists

    Clinical resources for therapists.

Everything you need to support clinical decisions, from prescription justifications to trial evidence.

    01 — Why Prescribe

    Why therapists prescribe adjustable beds.

Clinical reasons for prescription and how these systems address specific health and safety needs.

    Falls Risk

Situations where unstable transfers or low mobility require adjustable height and safer entry and exit.

    Mobility Limitations

Clients needing head elevation, leg elevation or profiling to assist transfers, breathing, posture or comfort.

    Pressure Injury Risk

Clients with redness, early skin breakdown or existing wounds who require pressure redistribution or alternating therapy.

    Skin Integrity Management

Where managing moisture, microclimate, shear or friction is essential for healing or prevention.

    Chronic Pain and Arthritis

Conditions where adjustable positioning helps reduce pain, stiffness, night time discomfort and functional limitations.

    Carer Safety

Manual handling risks where bed height, rails or assistive supports reduce strain and improve control.

    Cognitive or Behavioural Challenges

Clients who require safer positioning due to confusion, wandering, agitation or reduced spatial awareness.

    Reduced Independence

When equipment helps maintain daily routines such as reading, sleeping, repositioning or getting in and out of bed.

"The trial made the clinical reasoning straightforward. Seeing the client use the profiling functions and pressure surface in their own home made the justification clear. It strengthened the funding request significantly."

    02 — Why Evidence

    Why evidence matters.

Home trials generate the clinical data that supports informed decisions and funding applications.

    Sleep Outcomes

Understanding how clients respond to different surfaces over multiple nights provides data that a showroom visit cannot. We track comfort scores, pain changes, and repositioning frequency.

    Pressure Care Indicators

Trial evidence helps validate mattress selection, immersion characteristics, and whether alternating therapy is clinically indicated. Surface choice and risk level settings are documented.

    Functional Observations

Real environment testing captures transfer safety, bed height preferences, rail requirements, and carer interaction patterns that inform clinical recommendations.

    03 — What We Measure

What we measure during a trial.

Comprehensive data collection across the 7-day trial period.

Baseline vs follow up comfort and pain score

Overnight sleep notes and quality observations

Preferred bed height and rail configuration

    Mattress performance: immersion, stability, temperature

    Transfer safety and mobility confidence

    Whether alternating therapy is indicated

    Carer feedback summary and observations

    Client preference and qualitative notes

    04 — Trial Decisions

    Evidence-based outcomes.

Clear recommendations based on what the trial reveals.

    Recommend Return

    Client did not benefit clinically

    • No improvement in comfort or pain
    • Pressure care needs not met
    • Functional goals unachieved

    Recommend Purchase

    Clinical goals achieved

    • Comfort and pain improvement documented
    • Pressure risk addressed appropriately
    • Safe transfers confirmed
    • Funding pathway clear

    Recommend Rent-to-Buy

    Clinical benefit with flexible pathway

    • Positive trial outcomes recorded
    • Funding pending or unclear
    • Client prefers staged commitment

    Funding Clarification

As of 2025, neither NDIS nor Home Care Package guidelines fund equipment trials. Sleep Choice funds all 7-day trials at no cost to the participant. Delivery area limitations apply.
